Foundation
Projects
In the current
climate of state and county budget cuts, private
support for our region's open space is more
important than ever. Through the Santa Barbara
County Park Foundation, concerned citizens and
organizations can help sustain and improve our
communal spaces, and contribute to public
projects ranging from art installations to
trails to park facilities – even the acquisition
of new parks and open space. Below is a list of
projects in which the Foundation is currently
involved.

Art Installations

Arroyo Burro
Beach Coastal Overlook
This
unique art installation by noted artist Scott
Peterson will provide viewing platforms
that appear to "grow" from rock outcroppings,
allowing visitors to take in sweeping views of
the ocean and the Channel Islands. Now 80%
complete, there are signature giving
opportunities available as this installation is
fitted out for a grand opening later in 2008.
Isla
Vista "Sea Look Out" Park
In 1986
renowned environmental artist Lloyd Hamrol
installed large cedar seating
structures at this neighborhood park on a bluff
overlooking the ocean. After more
than 20 years of use and exposure to the
elements the wood is showing its
age. Help raise the funds to restore these
whimsical and popular structures.
Preservation and Park Development
San Marcos
Foothills Preserve
This
recently acquired 200-acre preserve overlooking
Santa Barbara is undergoing preparation of a
management plan to provide for public access
and environmental and cultural education. One
upcoming project is the development of trails,
signage and an outdoor visitor center that will
have a "light footprint" on the land. Learn more

Point Sal
Reserve
Now
reopened under a new access agreement with
Vandenberg Air Force Base, Point Sal is the most
rugged and least accessible county park. Help to
preserve this unique reach of California's
coastline.
Fundraising
Santa Barbara
Courthouse Grounds and Sunken Gardens
Our county
courthouse grounds are impeccably maintained by
Santa Barbara County Parks, frequently hosting
community events such as the Foundation's free
summer film series. Working with the Courthouse
Legacy Foundation, the Park Foundation will
establish an endowment to fund much needed
pruning and landscape improvements.
Friends of Waller
Park
One of our
flagship parks, located in Santa Maria, is the
beneficiary of the volunteer efforts of the
Friends of Waller Park. Get involved in crafting
a park master plan and establishing an endowment
to enhance the maintenance of this gracious
park. Learn more at
